The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is a joint initiative between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association. The mission of the Fund is to promote and enhance the growth of baseball and softball.
While the Fund awards grants primarily in the U.S. and Canada, it encourages the growth of the game throughout the world in new and emerging markets and in communities where baseball and softball are not offered.
The Fund awards grants to nonprofit organizations involved in the operation of youth baseball or softball programs and facilities. Support is provided for programs, fields, training for coaches, uniforms, equipment, and other selected program expenses.
The Fund is most interested in projects that:
- increase the number of youth participating in baseball and softball programs;
- improve the quality of youth baseball and softball programs;
- create new or innovative ways of expanding and improving baseball and softball programs;
- generate matching funds for programs;
- provide opportunities for children ages ten to 16;
- support existing programs which have demonstrated success in providing a quality baseball and softball experience for youth; and,
- provide opportunities for minorities and women.
Grants are intended to provide funding for incremental programming and facilities for youth baseball and softball programs, not for normal operating expenses or as a substitute for existing funding or fundraising activities.
Grants may be used to finance a new program, expand or improve an existing program, undertake a new collaborative effort, or obtain facilities or equipment necessary for youth baseball or softball programs.
Most successful applications demonstrate a high ratio of confirmed matching funds; a minimum match of 50% is generally required for further consideration.
Grants are generally not made to/for:
- operating expenses;
- third-party overhead costs;
- the purchase of land;
- loan payments;
- travel team expenses;
- scholarships;
- multi-sport facilities;
- parking lots, concession stands, grandstands, or restrooms; or,
- baseball and softball fields used by other sports and activities other than youth baseball and softball (i.e. soccer in the outfield, community festivals, adult softball leagues, etc.).
